WORKSHOPS AND SESSIONS

Somatic Journey into Dreams

The Dreaming Body workshops start by engaging in gentle, mindful movements that draw from somatic methods such as Feldenkrais, Body-Mind Centering, and ancestral healing work. Once habitual patterns of tension are eased and we relax into a parasympathetic state, we then enter into the dreamscape. This way of working with dreams honors the wisdom of the dream itself rather than making Dreamwork a mental or analytical exercise. These workshops are currently offered once a month in Eureka. Somatics and Satipatthana Meditation

The Integrated Body workshops combine the mindful movements of Feldenkrais, Body-Mind Centering, and Continuum with the elements of water, earth, air and fire, and the first 3 aspects of Satipatthana meditation: body, feeling, and mind. These workshops are currently offered in Eureka. Register at this link: Growth Yoga.

Somatic Writing and Art-Making for Grieving

These workshops hold mourning and grief as an essential part of life. We first connect to the sensations of grief in our bodies, engaging in somatic movement and mindfulness, to make space for what is alive in us. Then we spend time in sacred creativity, optional sharing, and relating to our ancestral spirits. Somatic Writing for Grieving will be offered starting in May at A Restful Space in Eureka.

Somatics and Mindful Self-Compassion for Grief

Lena started teaching classes in Mindful Self-Compassion as a way to better resource women healing from grief and trauma. In recent years, she began to also offer these 8-week workshops to clients needing more self-care in their lives and those needing tools to reduce self-criticism and shame. Her approach to Mindful Self-Compassion is unique in that she integrates an hour of somatic developmental movement into each 3-hour session. These workshops are offered in the summer. Reach out for more info.

Somatic Journey into Voice, Breath and Movement

This journey explores how we integrate the subtle motion of voice, breath, and functional movements in our bodies. Body-Mind Centering and Feldenkrais movement lessons help uncover habitual patterns that obstruct our bodies’ natural vocal abilities. honors both the function and sacredness of sound, and explores human developmental patterns of moving and speaking. Results include more efficient breathing, mobility, releasing of unnecessary tension, and freeing the voice. These workshops are offered in spring and fall in Arcata.

Somatics and Creativity

These workshops use somatics, dreams, and creativity as portals into a realm of consciousness not accessible via our patterned ways of thinking and doing. Somatic movement as a foundation for the creative process changed Lena's life and the lives of her clients. Somatics increases our capacity for entering and being in the creative realm; and, vice versa, creativity deepens our body-mind connections. These workshops are offered in the winter.

About Lena Hyde Nuñez, MA, GCFP

Born on an island off the coast of Honduras and raised by her Cuban grandparents, Lena first learned to work as a healer from her grandmother. Later, she learned Western approaches to healing by studying psychology and working in community mental health for over a decade.

She then found a bridge between her traditional healing roots and her academic studies. Somatics is the bridge that brought her back home to her body. Since her introduction to Somatic Meditation, the Feldenkrais Method, and Body-Mind Centering, she's spent twenty years studying a wide range of somatic therapies and working as a somatic therapist.

Lena believes that combining somatics with other disciplines exponentially increases individual healing and transformation as well as systemic healing and collaboration. This is her purpose for co-founding the nonprofit, Vital Stories -- as an added expression of her love for the creative process. Through Vital Stories, she offers workshops for women to explore somatic movement, writing and other art forms (such as social theater) in order to share their untold stories.

After living in San Francisco for over 20 years, Lena was called to relocate to Humboldt during the pandemic. She is honored to live on the ancestral land of the Wiyot people and her vision is to spend the summer season doing more of her work outside, with small groups of women camping close to the water spirits of this region's rivers.

In addition to offering workshops, teaching classes, and facilitating groups for organizations, Lena practices the divination methods she learned from her Afro-Cuban elders. She does this work sparingly, meaning that when someone is called, she trusts the ancestral spirits to guide them toward these methods of moving closer toward soul's purpose.
